Insipiration
Here are some of the things that have inspired my project.
Judith Beheading Holofernes by Caravaggio
The Sacrifice in this scene spoke to me in terms of how I wanted my painting to represent.
The Chiaroscuro adds depth to the painting and creates a dramatic mood I would like to recreate.
Self-Portrait with her Daughter by Vigée Le Brun
The very delicate embrace in this self-portrait and the loving gaze are enthralling. Replicating strong emotions was a goal of mine.

Plan
I wanted the painting to be full of symbols that contradict each other to express the falseness of any message the onlooker chooses to focus on, proving the existence of a duality that’s impossible to remove. Hence, the hug versus the beheading of the paintings above. I also wanted it to represent that any decision taken would lead to an incomplete answer. My aim was to make a very dramatic scene
Symbolism
Candles for Mourning
Butterflies for Rebirth
